Nancy Guthrie was reelected on Nov. 2, 2012 to serve a fourth term in the West Virginia House of Delegates. She was first elected in 2006.
Delegate Guthrie is chairwoman of the House Insurance Committee which reviews legislation on insurance issues in West Virginia. Guthrie also serves on the House Finance Committee where fiscal public policy is shaped regarding state budgetary affairs. This important Committee also gives Delegate Guthrie the opportunity to advocate for much-needed aid to the 36th District. In addition, Guthrie serves on the following committees, Health & Human Resources, Industry & Labor, Agriculture & Natural Resources, and the Select Committee on Crimes Against Children.
Delegate Guthrie is the former owner of Capitol City Communications, a small public, media and government relations company she founded in 1996. Guthrie also served as State Liaison to the late U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd from 1983-1992. Her background also includes a private sector position in public and government relations, management service with the U.S. Forest Service, and as a bureau chief and television reporter.
Delegate Guthrie is married to George Guthrie, an attorney of counsel with the law firm of Thomas, Combs & Spann. They live in Kanawha City and share their home with Lilly, their beloved Bernese Mountain Dog.
